There has recently been a lot of spotlight in the UK on the environment and the effects of Man on this planet that we live on. I just hope that everyone who passes through this site will just spare a moment to consider it. Click here to find out a little more.
It's been too easy to live like there's no tomorrow, and that our actions have no repercussions on the future we are leaving for our children, and our children's children. I urge everyone to make a little more effort, every little bit helps. Here's a couple of practical pointers.
1. Turn the air conditioning down, it's just stupid to crank it down to 16 degrees when you go to bed, and end up having to use a blanket.
2. Turn the heating off, and wear a sweater at home! There's no need to be able to walk around in shorts in the middle of winter.
3. Take public transportation to work or car pool. It's just too much of a luxury to just simply drive one person to work in on car. Think about the amount of fuel it takes to move an entire car, and just have 1 person sit in it.
4. Change to power saving bulbs. This is just common sense, it lasts longer than filament, and saves you money on your power bill at the same time.
5. Always the washing machine for a full load. To just go through and entire wash cycle, especially for hot cycles with just 1 or 2 items of clothing is such a waste!
6. There's no need to drive to the shop, when it's but a 20 minute walk away, EVEN IF it's really hot in Singapore. Lord knows we all need a bit more exercise. If we don't the rising sea levels might mean we would have to end up rowing to the shop, rather than drive.
7. Don't boil a full kettle if all you want is a cup of tea. Water has one of the highest heat capacities, what that means, is that it takes a LOT more energy to boil a full kettle than 1 cup.
Here are but a few points to help everyone of us make a difference to the amount of energy we use/waste. I'm sure if we thought about it, each of us would be able to come up with more. Let's each make an effort.
